By Dana Slatkin
In the Summertime Anytime Cookbook, Dana Slatkin uses fresh local produce to create recipes devoted to "giving to those we love through simple, artful cooking; and bringing the beauty and freedom of the beach into our everyday lives." Slatkin, a Culinary Institute of America alum who trained in three-star restaurants in France, organizes her recipes by weather. If this sounds unconventional, after browsing through the 130 luxuriantly photographed recipes you'll find yourself agreeing it makes perfect sense. A warm sunny picnic day demands cucumber gazpacho or a grilled snapper sandwich with roasted pepper aioli on focaccia, for example, while a summer shower calls for dipping a baby grilled cheese in Slatkin's velvety plum tomato soup. Section titles include Sunny Days, Cloudy Days, Balmy Nights, Stormy Nights, and Misty Mornings, and each features a menu perfect for that climate. Only Partly Cloudy with 30 Percent Chance of Rain is missing.
