Nothing can transform a room from so-so to sensational better than color.
But there is one catch: You can overdo it, particularly when you're using deep colors. To avoid overwhelming the eye, stifle the impulse to saturate every surface. Instead layer color, as in this room, in which intense shades of tomato red and warm burgundy pop against a decidedly neutral background. A natural sea-grass rug, beige curtains, and white accessories keep the room's palette from becoming too dark or over the top.
