Custom window treatments will set you back serious cash -- unless you create your own. Pick up plain roller shades from a home center, then stencil on a whimsical design. Secure the stencils with double-sided tape on the underside and painter's tape on top to keep them still while you work. Fill in with stencil paint or acrylic artists' paint using a stenciling brush. Then hang your shade, top it off with pretty curtains, and enjoy the view.
