Colorful Contemporary

This roomy, square deck occupies a tranquil spot in a spacious backyard, and has enough space for a dining table that can accommodate a crowd of friends and family. When the deck was built two years ago, the wood was treated with Thompson's Water Seal Tinted Wood Protector in a cool shade of gray.

We painted the antique table a similarly soft dove gray, and paired it with white stacking chairs made of lightweight, durable plastic, which are delightfully low-maintenance since they can simply be wiped down after use.

For accents, we chose a rich crimson-and-white palette instead of the usual summer pastels.
