The Amazing Dresser Do-Over

It definitely didn't look this good when blogger Sarah Patterson bought it for $30. But a little paint and some easy DIY tricks transformed her yard-sale find.

The Starting Point

When my husband, Jon, and I started buying cheap furniture at tag sales and thrift shops a few years ago, we were on a mission -- we had an empty new house in Charlotte, North Carolina, and we were on a tight budget. I'm a fifth-grade teacher, so this new hobby was a perfect way to keep me busy in the summer. Pretty soon I got so into it that we opened a side business selling our rehabbed furniture at a local antiques mall and I started a blog called Dumped and Discovered. This dresser project, which uses paintable, embossed wallpaper on the drawer fronts, is one of my favorites. You can find the wallpaper at any Lowe's or Home Depot. Trust me, it's not hard; you can finish the whole thing on a weekend afternoon.

Here's what I started with: an old dresser I bought for $30 at a yard sale.
