After: The mom in the family, an avid crafter who loves to paint, sew, and make holiday decorations, needed space to work on projects. The existing slop sink made this corner a natural spot. We constructed a versatile craft table from adjustable trestle legs from IKEA and an inexpensive, flat hollow-core door (available at home centers) covered in waterproof oilcloth from Oilcloth International. Lightweight chairs from West Elm provide pull-up seating, and we stocked the shelves with stylish craft-supply containers, including glass kitchen jars, painted wooden boxes, and striped tins. Curtains hung from a tension rod under the sink offer out-of-sight storage space. Next to the craft area, the entryway is outfitted with baskets so the family has easy access to everyday items on their way out.
