Handsome, comfortable furniture and attractive accessories contributed by JCPenney ended all that. Just say yes, urged Ladies' Home Journal and the company's representatives, and the Shanowers agreed: The new living-room floor Dana had laid and the walls Sally had painted were wonderful, but it was time to move on and furnish the space.

Now the family has a place to kick back in their own home -- and so do their visitors. Sally reports that she doesn't have to make excuses for the empty room anymore. It's been instantly transformed from a negative to a positive aspect of their house -- and for these homebodies, an affirmation of their identity.
