We're sure it's in your closet: That one outfit that looked great on the rack, but never fit quite right (or has somehow become outdated). Think you have to declare it money ill spent? On the contrary: With a good tailor on your side, you can make almost any item fit well and look great! Here, some ideas on what a tailor can do, beyond simple hems and button-sewing:

Give a long skirt an update. Your tailor can lop off the bottom of a dated long skirt, shortening it to a flattering knee length.

Make a blouse un-dowdy. Got blouses from decades past? Ask your tailor to remove any outdated details (such as a neck tie), add princess seams to make the blouse fitted, and shorten the sleeves to three-quarter length.

Straighten legs. If you caved in and bought flare pants or jeans in the last few years, a tailor can remove the flare and give them a much more classic, straight-leg silhouette.

Adjust a waistband. This is invaluable if you have trouble finding bottoms with waists and hips that fit! Your tailor can take in a waistband, literally shaping it to your body. Sometimes, tailors can also let out a waistband if needed.

Add a kick pleat. Pencil skirts are flattering, but they can be difficult to walk in. A tailor can add a slit or pleat in the back, giving you more movement in the skirt.

Shape a jacket. To soften the look of a boxy jacket, a tailor can add seams along the front and back, nipping it in at the waist and a creating a more flattering, feminine shape.
