How to Wear Bright Tights
Make this trend your own.

Bright and patterned tights are a big trend this season, and while they look great in the fashion world, making them work in the real world can be trickier. Here, some ideas:
- Choose subtler colors: While fuchsia and lime-green tights are hot, more demure shades like plum and khaki speak to the trend in a more wearable way. Land's End makes tights in a variety of colors; try Deep Spruce Green or Burgundy, $17.
- Layer it on: Not brave enough to wear this season's hot fishnets by themselves? Layer them over a brightly-colored pair of tights.
- Peek-a-boo your patterns: Tights with plaid or geometric patterns look great peeking out from the top of knee-high boots, which gives a glimpse of trendiness without being overpowering.
- Try them with trousers: Instead of sporting a short skirt to show off bold tights, try pants. The drama of the hosiery will still show, just not as blatantly. If you don't like wearing tights under trousers, try knee-highs.
- Keep clothes simple: If you're not shy about wearing bold tights, pair them with monochromatic clothes to avoid a look that's too busy. You want the tights to take center stage.
- Be realistic for work: Showing up to a conservative client meeting in fishnets or polka-dotted hosiery isn't a great idea; if you work in a buttoned-up environment, save the wild tights for weekends.
