How to Wear Purple
Purple is hot for fall, and it's a fun departure from the traditional browns, oranges, and forest greens we usually see in September. But this royal hue can be tricky to wear, especially if you prefer an understated look to an in-your-face one. Luckily, designers and cosmetics companies have come up with lots of ways to sneak purple into your wardrobe. Here, some ideas:
Fun Purple Fashion Purple has a bohemian feel this fall. To work the shade, try wearing a lilac blazer in a comfy fabric like velvet or corduroy. Pair with brown slacks and a brown turtleneck for a sophisticated look, or adorn with vintage-inspired pins for a funkier effect. Another option: A purple camisole or silky blouse with a tie around the neck. Sport these easy-to-wear tops under an office suit for the perfect mix of tailored and trendy. Or try a purple tweed bag for a softer, even more subtle take on the trend. Shoes in various shades of plum are also an out-of-the-ordinary way to wear this shade. Pretty Purple Beauty Believe it or not, purple is actually quite easy for most women to wear. The key to making purple makeup look chic and not costumey: Pick one feature on which to wear the hue. For the most current look, go for a smoky purple eye shadow. Apply to lids with a tapered shadow brush, being sure to apply only up to the creases -- if you apply all the way up to your brow bones, you'll look like you have black eyes! Add a line of black liner, black mascara, and a pale pink lip gloss. On the flip side: try a purple lip color. The best pick for this look is a purple gloss, which can be rich in color but sheer in texture, making it wearable. Pair purple glossy lips with neutral eyes -- go for a taupe shadow and gray liner.
