Summer to Fall

If you couldn't resist the fall fashions in department stores this summer, you're likely to be counting the seconds until September, when you can wear your new autumn wardrobe. The problem? Those early weeks of the month are often just as hot, humid, and stifling as August! To help you transition your wardrobe from summer to fall -- all while staying comfortable and chic -- try these ten ideas:

1. Wear stay-cool fabrics. For an autumn feel without sacrificing coolness and breathability, choose clothing in fabrics like tropical wool and silk knit.

2. Try deeper colors. Bridge the season change by wearing summer staples, like a shift dress or pair of cropped pants, in a fall shade, such as burgundy, chocolate, or forest green.

3. Go sleeveless. Wear a tailored tank or shell under a fall suit; it will keep you cooler than a long-sleeved blouse.

4. Warm up summer favorites. A lightweight cardigan worn over a sundress or a long-sleeved, boatneck tee worn with capris subtly make summer pieces more autumn-appropriate.

5. Shift into fall shoes. While knee-high boots may be too wintery for September, a pair of closed-toe mules or classic driving moccasins will look (and feel!) perfect.
