Spiegel's Leopard-
Print Skimmer

One of fall's biggest trends packs a decidedly loud roar: Animal prints. This season, animal prints are showing up on almost every wardrobe item, from sweaters to shoes to handbags to outerwear. Read on for tips on how to try this trend for yourself.

Where you'll find this season's prints...

  • Sweaters: Look for wrap and cardigan sweaters in cheetah prints.
  • Shoes: Designers are putting animal prints on many styles, from fully-printed pumps in leopard to loafers with zebra-printed tongues. Try this trend comfortably with these leopard-print skimmer flats from Spiegel ($39).
  • Handbags: The trendiest styles meld animal prints with another big fall pattern, tweed.
  • Outerwear: You'll find trench coats, faux-fur coats, bucket hats, and scarves in prints, from leopard to zebra.
  • Skirts: Simple A-line skirts get a funky update when done in zebra print.

How to wear them...

  • For a tailored, more conservative look, pair an animal-print piece with an otherwise neutral, solid outfit. Where you wear the print doesn't matter. For example, try a zebra-print skirt with a black v-neck sweater, black tights, and black knee-high boots. Or wear a cheetah-print cardigan over a beige silk tee, with beige boot-cut pants, and simple brown loafers. If a printed piece of clothing still feels too wild, go for a printed accessory with a neutral outfit, such as leopard-print loafers with a basic black suit, or an ocelot-print tote bag with khakis and a brown sweater.
  • If you want to stand out a little more, wear your prints in a more daring way. One option: Pair prints with bold colors. For example, wear your zebra skirt with a hot pink sweater, bright tights, and black boots. Or pair the leopard-print wrap sweater with an orange skirt and tights. Another idea: Mix your prints. No, we don't mean wear several animal prints at once. Instead, add different prints to the mix. So you could, for example, wear a cheetah-print cardigan over brown-and-orange plaid pants. Or try a zebra-print trench over black-and-white pinstriped pants and a white blouse.
