What to Wear If You're Plus-Sized
Your Best Pieces
Little by little, the fashion designers of America are realizing that we're not all size 2 (or even size 10). Plus-size women finally have more choices when it comes to clothes, and fashionable looks are now available in bigger sizes. But many women still fall into the trap of thinking that large bodies means even larger clothes. No matter what your size, the rules of fit still apply: clothes that hang shapelessly off the body only make you look bigger than you really are. Instead, look for pieces that skim along your curves without feeling skin-tight. And highlight your strong points: if you've got great cleavage, unbutton the top of a blouse. If you've got great curvy calves, wear knee-length skirts and great sandals. And don't forget that confidence is every well-dressed woman's best accessory.
Can't Miss Pieces:
Wrap dresses You can adjust the top half and waist to fit your curves just right: close to the body but not too tight.
Soft fabrics Tops and bottoms should drape over your body. Stiff material will bunch and create unnatural, unflattering lines.
V-neck tops You've got the cleavage, so why not show a little? A partially unbuttoned blouse with the collar turned up slightly can have the same flattering effect.
