4 Spring Updates
Want to get ready for a stylish spring, but not ready for anything as drastic as a color change, or an image-changing cut? Updating your hair look is about the details. A small change, with an eye to the newest trends, looks fresher and better than a complete "fashion victim" makeover each season.
Luckily, this season's hair is decidedly unstructured, even a little tousled -- a look that's all too simple to replicate. To give hair a quick and easy spring update, I suggest adding these new tools to your beauty repertoire:
Teasing Comb Tousled and teased hair, framing the face, is a definite spring hair trend. Tease dry hair lightly, then tie back all of it, or just the front section, in a ponytail for the new "pompadour" look.
Headband Country club chic it's not -- this season's headbands have an edgy, modern appeal. Slip a thin, elastic band a few inches from the forehead. Don't make the fashion mistake of a too-thick band, or pushing the band too far back on the head.
Hair Wax It's all about texture -- spring hair has layers, waves, curls, and they're all big, bountiful, and bold. To create volume, texture, and that requisite "piecey" look, prep damp or dry hair with some hair wax. I recommend Aveda Custom Control Styling/Finishing Emulsion ($16.50).
Fine Comb Play the part for a great spring hair look. I recommend a straight part, defined deep and low on one side. Sweep hair into a high ponytail, or keep it loose and slightly tousled. The comb also works for another big spring hair trend, sideswept bangs. Part hair, then sweep bangs over the forehead to the opposite side for a bang update.
