Growing out bangs can be a huge challenge. Many times, we get so frustrated with they way they look as they grow out, that we cut them off again! While there's nothing you can do to make them grow more quickly, there are some techniques you can follow to make them look their best in the interim:

  • Keep up with trims. Even growing-out bangs need trims to keep them healthy and free of split ends. A few snips every four to six weeks will help them stay in good shape. (Trick: Many salons will do in-between-haircut-appointments bang trims for little or no charge!)
  • Pick your position. You can go two ways with growing-out bangs: Push them off your face, or sweep them to the side. When you've decided on your direction, comb hair into that position while it's wet. This will encourage hair to stay that way as it dries.
  • Try a new product. The hair potions you used when you had shorter bangs may not be enough as you're growing hair out. Try a nongreasy pomade (like Aveda's Self Control Styling Stick, $15.50) to hold bangs in their new position and make them look shiny.
  • Don't forget accessories. They're growing-out bangs' best friends. Headbands, mini barrettes, and tiny clips hold long bangs out of your eyes -- and look stylish while doing it. (Remember to match the accessory to the occasion. In other words, save the rhinestone barrettes for weekends and parties, and keep them out of the office.)
