Winter Hair Remedies
It's not always the cold air outside that causes hair to become dry and brittle. The warm heat inside your home, office, or car is just as often the culprit. It literally sucks the moisture out of hair, leaving it dry and lifeless by the time summer rolls around. It's important to use a leave-in conditioning treatment to give your blow dry a boost in the morning. The idea is to keep a protective layer in your hair -- and help your blow-dry turn out smoother so you don't have to shampoo as often.

Kitchen ConditionerIf you're not in the mood to add another product to your arsenal, try this homeopathic remedy instead: gently coat dry hair in olive oil, then lather in shampoo. Leave the mixture in your hair for five minutes before rinsing. Treatment masques and leave-in conditioners are a great way to protect your hair from environmental stress and extreme temperatures -- even if they're homemade.
Fountain of YouthIf your hair feels lifeless and dull year-round, that's a sign it's losing its vitality. Whether the cause is age or environmental stress, the treatment is the same. Use a shampoo and conditioner designed for aging hair -- they'll contain special proteins and vitamins to add strength and shine. A humidifier can also help prevent unneeded damage by maintaining the moisture balance in your home air. And remember to hydrate from the inside out by drinking lots of water throughout the day.
