Sara Evans

One might think that raising three little kids might make it tough to pursue a country music career, but that's what Sara Evans, 34, has accomplished. "We make it a family affair. My husband and the kids travel with me," she says.

Evans, whose new (still untitled) CD is due out late summer, has been singing since she was just 4 years old; she's currently gearing up for a summer tour with singer Alan Jackson.

Evans admits to loving the pre-show beauty primping almost as much as performing. "My assistant does my hair while I do my makeup and the kids run around. It's such a fun time in the evening," she says.

It's this kind of domestic bliss that Evans says helped shape her own beauty identity. "I thought, 'I am going to be a cute mom,'" she says unapologetically. "Becoming a mother just gave me the confidence that I needed."

It helps when your hair is as lustrous as hers. For shows, she likes it "big but with movement," she says. When she's not performing, Evans washes it only every few days, since she finds that her hair holds a style best when it's a little dirty. Offstage, a ponytail is her preferred hairstyle, especially when she's in her Oregon farmhouse. Surrounded by her brood, of course.

Tips to Try at Home

If you wait more than two days to shampoo your hair, as Evans sometimes does, your hair will benefit from a deep cleaning shampoo to eliminate product buildup without stripping moisture from the cuticle. We like Suave Professionals Clarifying Shampoo, $1.99. To achieve a tousled, voluminous look, run a thickening cream, such as Charles Worthington London Big Hair Amazing Volume Finishing Cream, $5.99, through damp hair and style.
