The Upside
Long hair gives you the chance to change your look frequently. You can wear it down or pulled into a ponytail, braid, or a bun whenever the mood strikes you.
Long hair says youth, especially when it's shiny and full of bounce. Even if you're over 35, you can wear it long. Classic beauties like Jane Seymour and Demi Moore are chic examples.
The Downside
"You must be prepared to keep up with long hair," warns Mancuso. Tangles are an issue, he says, and since long hair has been exposed to heat styling and the elements, it tends to be drier, too.
Fine-hair types might find that longer hair makes their style go flat on top.
The Compromise
Why not give clip-on hair extensions a whirl? They're easy to put in and take out, no commitment necessary.
The Products
A dab of Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Cream-Gel, $3.99, will keep long hair frizz-free.
Matrix Sleek.look Smooth Recovery Treatment, $16.95, an intense conditioner, lets your locks stay in tip-top shape.
