As the 2003 growing season gets under way, kids start to show up. They're curious and they need someplace to go and something to do. The three women put them to work. One night they look around and are amazed to discover that more than a dozen children, ranging in age from grade school through early teens, are busy and happy, planting perennials and annuals. Stephenson recalls thinking, "Wow, we've started a children's garden."
